Report of Antigone Paper Being the third, yet first written, of Sophocles Theban tragic myths, Antigone was written in or around 441 B. C. The setting of Antigone occurs in the palace of Thebes. Thebes is ruled by Creon, whose sister, Jocasta, was the wife and mother of infamous Oedipus Rex. Oedipus was King of Thebes until he expelled himself from the kingdom, leaving his children Polynices, Ismene, Eteocles, and Antigone, along with the throne, in Creons care. The two brothers Polynices and Eteocles die as opposing fighters in a war for the throne. Creon declares that since Polynices brought about he war, he will not have the honorable and traditional burial that his brother has been granted. Rather, his body and remains will be left for the vultures and wild dogs to tear apart. Defying Creons rules, Antigone takes it upon herself to give her brother a proper burial. Antigone expresses her desire to Ismene, who declines Antigones request in help; she carries out the respectable ceremony by herself. Back at the palace in Thebes, Creon is notified by a guard that Polynices body has been buried. Creon demands that the lawbreaker be brought to him and punished. Antigone proudly takes responsibility in having carried out her brothers burial. Antigone is to be punished for her crime. Haemon, Creons son and Antigones fianc? ©, tries to persuade Creon into reconsidering Antigones fate. Instead Haemon ends up angering Creon and losing his trust; Antigone will still be punished. Haemon vows that he will never see his father again. After Antigone is lead away to be imprisoned in a cave, a blind and wise prophet named Teiresias visits Creon and warns him of his possible fate. Because of his unjustness, Creon will lose one child for leaving Polynices body unburied, and for wrongly imprisoning Antigone. This prophecy comes to pass when Haemon commits suicide after finding Antigone hanging by a noose in the cave. Along with this, Creons wife also kills herself. Pertaining to the thesis, or theme, of this story, I feel that the meaning is Justice. Antigone refuses to obey Creons law, even while knowing the consequences. She stood firm and atoned for her actions because they were what she believed in. Though its arguable if she was wrong or not, she accepted the consequences in full. When being trialed by Creon, Antigone states this: And what law of heaven have I transgressed? Why, hapless one, should I look to the gods any more, what ally should I invoke, when by pity I have earned the name of impious? Nay, then, if these things are pleasing to the gods, when I have suffered my doom, I shall come to know my sin; but if the sin is with my Judges, I could wish them no fuller measure of evil than they, on their part, made wrongfully to me. From this I interpreted that she had seen no wrong in her doings. Creons law isnt what she believed to be that of the righteous gods and that their Judgment is what atters most. Since the beginning of the book, it was questioned whether Creons declaration the kingdom for the throne, but another thing to consider is whether everyone, including Polynices, is entitled to be properly taken care of after death. But I cherish good hope that my coming will be welcome to my father, and pleasant to thee, my mother, and welcome, brother, to thee; for, when ye died, with mine own hands I washed and dressed you, and prepared drink-offerings at your graves; and now, Polynices, tis for tending thy corpse that I win such recompense as this. Not only were Antigones defiance in burying her brother unheard of, but so was the fact that she was a rebelling woman. Women were expected to obey and have little to no rights. To be so disobedient and free willed may have been threatening to Creon and his position in authority. Similar acts of rebellion and courageous women can be seen in history. Women such as Susan B. Anthony, who supported the right for women to vote, have similar attributes to Antigone. Susan believed that all women were equal to men, and she knew the Justice in that being true. Along with Susan B. Anthony is a woman named Rosa Parks, who saw that it was unjust for African Americans to be unlawfully required to sit at the back of the bus, while white- skinned people were not. Rosa addressed this problem by sitting at the front of the bus and refusing to move when asked. Throughout the whole story, Antigone is keen on doing what is Just. The book had unreality to It because It Is set In what I believe to be a futuristic post-apocalyptic time. It talks about how society got hit by solar flares and are Infected by this disease by the scorch which makes you Into a crazed lunatic who has lost all sense of humanity and wishes to be dead so that pain would stop yet some driving forces makes it attack and kill any living it can possible get a hold of. Also there is a group called the Gladder which is a group of guys and one girl namedTheresa Agnes who can telepathically communicate to one of the boys named Thomas. They also have to fight these one creatures that have these bulb things all over their bodies and have blades for hands which is completely unreal and they Just gruesomely attack the Gladder Just slaughtering some of them. Finally one thing that is totally unrealistic is when they are traveling through this tunnel they come upon these metal spheres. That are extremely hot and they will drop on your head encasing I tself around your head melting away your entire head in Just minutes, butIf you somehow manage to get the meal sphere off your head your head Is badly burned to where It Is barely recognizable. â€Å"Real-World† This book has many real-world ideas integrated into it. For instance this whole â€Å"trial† is overseen by this group called â€Å"WICKED†. It is basically the post-apocalyptic government which consists of all the remaining governments unite into a single totalitarianism one could say where they control absolutely every aspect of the remaining society and especially over the Gladder.This government is much more technologically advanced than ours by far. The city in the book makes me think back to barbaric times and how each â€Å"city† has a Ajar or â€Å"ruler†. Because the city well the section of the city Is controlled by a Hispanic name Jorge. He is at the top of the hierarchy he Is the king, the strongest among that section of â€Å" half-crazies† (not fully taken by the scorch still half human). Jorge commands the half cranes keeping them safe and Glenn the Jobs to do Just basically keeping them organized In a chills manor.WICKED has an army of soldiers that help out the Gladder (well Thomas) from time to time interfering just to the trial afloat by giving Thomas aid when he almost dies and he bring him to Wicker's doctors to fix up Thomas then they placed him back into the city and left again. The second time they help the Gladder is when they fight the bulb creatures near the end when they finish that part of the trial they take them away from the creatures before the creatures could kill off the rest of the Gladder.The final and most important is that in harsh and trouble times people will unite to survive against the terrible odds. People have an Ingrained desire to survive Its instinct really It may be deeply buried In us but somewhere It lays in us all. In the book these boys don't know each other b ut they unite to survive. The spotlight shining bright directly on her, you could see the fear in her glossy hazel eyes as she took a quick glimpse into the crowd. A beautiful A flat. So petite and perfect you knew her performance was going to be astonishing.A violin is a beautiful instrument to look at. That beauty, which comes from the instrument's curved and often shiny body, is what helps make the sound you hear. The body of a violin is hollow. The strings are above the body, suspended by a bridge. The bridge is a small, maple piece of wood. This bridge is secured on the instrument because of the tension of the strings. When the violin is played, the vibrati on of the strings is transferred from the bridge to the body. The vibration is amplified in the body of the violin, and this is the sound you hear.The sound of a well played violin is the sound of emotions, from the length of sadness to the shortness of expectations. Sometimes, it's low pitch, whispering like the wind and warm like a blanket and then it gets higher and higher until the pitch is so high, it's borderline painful, but just before you reach the pain†¦ it stops and get silenced†¦ and then whispers again. Pornography is regarded as immoral and downright filthy by the people. It denies human dignity and often stimulates the user to violent acts (Beahm 295). Therefore, pornography and violence are correlated. It trivializes the human beauty and converts it into commercialized slime (Beahm 295). In short, pornography is a very addictive drug; which has an equal or more potency to hard-core drugs like heroin and cocaine.
